Description
The position of Senior Research Scientist, Biologics Sample Preparation Product Development is responsible for the leading Sample Prep/SPE product development initiatives for Biologics (mAbs, Proteins, mRNA and other biologically derived therapeutics. Working with assigned members of the R&D and Marketing team, the position will oversee projects to enhance, or investigate new and/or existing separation products and technology in the Biologics field. This may include leading a team of synthetic and analytical chemists to develop new, SPE, Immunoassy, and other sample preparation or separation science consumables, as well as taking sole responsibility for developing new development, manufacturing, or analytical techniques used to create or improve products and technology. This role will also include support of new and existing products through application and applied technology work, in order to produce literature, seminars, publications, and training.

General Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

•Conceive, design and develop/evaluate novel, efficient, reproducible, marketable and “scaleable” consumable technologies for Biologics SPE and sample preparation, in line with company goals. •Study and understand sample preparation methods and problems within rapidly growing and/or relevant strategic areas of separation science in order to drive and direct development efforts. •Research, develop and present solution-oriented separation and sample preparation methods for for key workflows and sample times within Biologics resarsch, based on Phenomenex technology and products. •Effectively lead research projects within R&D, including proper planning, resource allocation, control and completion. •Assist in the development of novel technologies as part of an/the R&D team as required •Develop applications for new products and technologies. •Lead technical support and trouble-shooting investigations in cooperation with the Technical Dept. to support customer and product needs. •Develop meaningful and discriminating QC tests for all new products in conjunction with the QC Supervisor •Support technical and manufacturing personnel in the transfer, optimization, scale-up, and troubleshooting of all new production methods and SOPs •Maintain detailed, accurate, legible records of all experiments, and graph all relevant trend data along with the appropriate controls and blanks •Maintain all instruments and equipment in excellent condition, keep all work areas neat and clean, and follow all safety procedures without exception •Supervise, manage and assign work to staff research associates and technicians as required for research programs. •Plans, executes and manages project activities with full responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and employees •Work with R&D, Sales and Marketing to launch and promote new methods and products to the scientific community. •Provide support to Marketing on brochure, web, technical and seminar content. •Travel as required (10- 15% ) to meet program goals. •Perform other functions required for the development, commercialization and/or support of new products, as required

Qualification
* PhD or equivalent in Biochemistry or related field with min. 4-5 years focus protein therapeutic research, or proteomics * 3-5 years direct experience in the extraction, clean-up, or enrichment of mAbs/Proteins utilizing immunoassay technologies required, with understanding of both upstream and downstream purification strategies * Experience in SPE, Immunoassy, and sample preparation automation for Biologics * Demonstrated experience in LC/MS of mAbs, proteins and peptide digests * Knowledge in advanced workflows for protein characterization, including host cell proteins and peptide quantitation, is a plus * An aptitude for modification of equipment or instruments to meet study goals. * Excellent working knowledge of current instrumentation, robotics, and automation is desired. * Strong ability to think “outside the box” and apply your skills creatively to solve real-world chromatographic method/application problems
* Experience in managing or supervising staff researchers and technicians * Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, execute and manage multiple complex projects * Outgoing personality with excellent English and presentation skills, and a love for public speaking. * Fluency in a foreign language is a plus.
