Job Description

The mission of the NPI Quality Engineer is to provide leadership to project and/or production teams to ensure delivery of quality products. In this capacity, the NPI QE will be a member of a cross-functional team that includes the Manufacturing Engineer, Production Manager, Design Engineer and Team Leads in the continuous improvement of the Fabrication production areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work in a close, collaborative fashion with Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering and Production management in the pursuit of common metric-based goals

  • Lead cross-functional teams in conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) efforts

  • Successfully lead improvement projects assigned using lean principles, six sigma methodology or other improvement tools

  • Establish and maintain process controls to reduce costs related to scrap and rework and improve first time yield

  • Develop quality control plans throughout manufacturing process and final lot acceptance

  • Lead design, product, or process FMEAs during product and process development

  • Support New Product Introduction and Production part approval process (PPAP) for all quality engineering functions

  • Implement and/or improve Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to the appropriate level in support of continuous improvement efforts

  • Lead & conduct Design Of Experiment (DOE) for Root Cause and Corrective Action, and process optimization activities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain appropriate driver metrics in support of Organization metrics

  • Develop and deliver public presentations as appropriate for all levels within the organization

  • Foster and promote passion in advancing Lean, continuous improvement, and quality concepts

  • Establish, implement and maintain PPAP process for New Product Development

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of blueprint interpretation in accordance with ANSI/Y-14.5

  • Working knowledge of New Product Introduction and Production part approval process (PPAP)

  • Solid command in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, MiniTab

  • Proficiency in process control tools (SPC, Process Capability, MSA, etc)

  • Expert in root cause and corrective actions (RCCA) analysis with systematized approach such as 8D, RCCA, 7 Step, CAR, etc.

  • Comfortable in making decisions in a rapid paced, forward evolving environment

  • Unquestionable commitment to, and ability to facilitate actions in, continuous improvement efforts

  • Ability to provide leadership to direct reporting personnel as required

  • Great communication skills especially with production personnel, Engineering personnel (Manufacturing, Design and Quality) and Management staff

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in coordinating cross-functional teams

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9102, AS9100 standards, FAA regulations

  • Proficiency in Minitab

  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing methodologies

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies

  • Ability to lead high visibility projects assigned, like new system/procedure implementation, continuous improvements projects etc; and successful completion of the same

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent field

  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience desired - working in a Quality Engineering capacity or Engineering field within aerospace or automotive environments

  • Must be able to detail experience in New Product Introduction

  • Six Sigma Green Belt/Certified Quality Engineer preferred
