USC’s Keck School of Medicine, Department of Pathology, Southern California Center for ALPD and Cirrhosis is seeking a Research Associate to join its team. The ideal candidate will have an MD degree and
must have sufficient skills and experience in: mouse /rat surgery, breeding colony and genotyping, and mouse/rat experimentation, and supervision/management of animal facility.
Responsibilities include 1) overseeing daily activities of the center’s animal core; 2) anesthesia and aseptic surgery to place gastrostomy catheters, to transplant cells subcutaneously or via spleen or liver; to ligate and excise common bile duct, or to perform partial hepatectomy; 3) performing necropsy and tissue collection and processing procedures; 4) maintaining mouse breeding colonies and performing genotyping by extraction of DNA and PCR; 5) participating in and overseeing daily feeding of experimental rodents; 6) participating in and overseeing diet preparation and medication of experimental rodents; 5) assisting the center director for approval for IACUC protocols, animal transfer, laboratory inspection; and 7) summarizing and reporting animal experimentation activities and chargeback requirements to the center’s administration office.This position will require working on evenings or weekends as needed.
The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals, academic medical centers and clinical laboratories throughout the country.

Minimum Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate
Minimum Experience: 1 year
Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education and experience in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and analysis methods.
