The Technical Operations group at YP works with teams across the organization to deploy, operate, monitor and secure the infrastructure and applications of a major Internet destination. The infrastructure under our management includes thousands of Linux and Windows systems, enterprise NAS and SAN storage, complex LAN and WAN networking, and multiple database technologies. The application environment involves a diverse mix of open source, commercial and proprietary software. We run a 24x7 operations center and also provide collaboration tools to the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build, administer, and troubleshoot a large, mission critical environment.

  • Plan, schedule, test and perform software installation and upgrades.

  • Serve as an escalation point for other Systems Administrators, Engineers, and other technology teams in the resolution of server and system problems.

  • Assist all team members in performing functions necessary for continued operations of systems to solve problems with associated hardware and software.

  • Provide systems support by participating in rotational on-call support as well as performing recovery, maintenance and upgrades during weekend and evening hours.

  • Keep informed on the latest developments in automated systems information and procedures.

  • Perform research and/or planning of projects in conjunction with other assigned team members.

  • Evaluate and/or recommend purchases or tools; perform benchmark tests and proof of concepts.

  • Work closely with vendors and other technology teams to plan and implement multidisciplinary projects.

  • Create and maintain documentation of systems and processes for existing and new systems.

  • Coordinate changes with application owners to ensure minimal negative user impact.

  • Document infrastructure architecture, standards, and implementations.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of automation tools used in the management of our infrastructure.

  • Propose and collaborate on innovations to improve the team, department, and company.

  • Must be self-driven, work well in teams, be transparent, open, honest, and practice extreme ownership.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • 7+ years of experience managing Windows environments.

  • Expert knowledge of Windows Server Operating systems.

  • Experience building, managing, and troubleshooting large Active Directory domains and failover clusters.

  • Extensive experience scripting in PowerShell.

  • Solid knowledge building, managing, and troubleshooting large clustered and coordinated standalone Hyper-V environments.

  • Deep understanding of Windows system internals, configuration, and deployment tools.

  • Understanding of open source technologies, and familiarity with contributing to open source projects.

  • Knowledge of fundamental networking/distributed computing concepts.

  • Understanding of intermediate routing concepts and protocols.

  • Understanding of intermediate storage concepts.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.

  • Experience using Virtualization technologies using Hyper-V or VMWare

  • Experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server strongly recommended

  • 7+ years’ experience in systems engineering/administration

Preferred tenure and elements:

  • Some Linux and/or networking infrastructure as well as code development background is preferred

  • Education Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
